Mathias Kaden
Interviewed by Archipel’s team
1. It seems that you have been introduced to music and production with other people such as Marek Hemmann and Onur Ozur. What sort of roles have they been playing in your carreer, tell us about your partnership?
I met marek in 2002. At that time he was a techno producer and i was playing as a dj. We talked about music and in the end we said "ok we have to do some music together."
Marek showed me a lot of technical things and producing so after 1 year we released the first record called „Guten tag EP „ on our label freude am tanzen. After that, we released 4 records and a few remixes again. I love to share music with my friends. Music is not for one person.
Its the same with onur. I think we met in 2005 after Gabor (robag whrume) received a demo from him and he did his first release on FAT! In the same time i released my first record on Vakant (“circle pit“, vakant 004) and Onur followed the 005 with „envy ep“. At that time we played every gigs that we had together!! His style is more melodic and techno and mine is rhythmic and more house... ok, but sometimes he is more house and i'm more techno... Whatever, I love to play with him...
When you share music you can learn a lot, its beautiful!!!!
You mainly worked with Vakant so far for making your EP's. Would you say you helped built the sound of the label or they influenced you in your music?
It´s both!! We're only 4 people to produce music for vakant: Alex Smoke, Tolga Fidan, Onur özer and myself. I think i helped to build the sound from Vakant and also i lerned a lot from the guys too!!!! Vakant is a different label compared to FAT. On Vakant, i can release different style of techno and a bit darker stuff while FAT is more my housier stuff.
There's a difference in the aesthetics of your first EP (Circle Pit) and your latest bomb, Myal EP. It seems you're using more and more organic sounds now and voices, what happened that changed you?
One year ago i finished building my studio with a new PA and loads of hardware, i think this is the reason of my new direction in music because i can do what i want!!!i recorded many voices and drums by my self while i want to go away from the typical minimal stuff.
Which artist is to you a reference you look to when you have lack of inspiration?
my inspiration came from different things such as theenviroment, travels and other culture. i think i don´t look to other artits but maybe a bit of the influence comes from my dj friends like robag whrume, daniel stefanik, onur özer, marek hemmann, treplec...
You agreed to do a remix for Archipel and it seems there's a parallel with the Myal EP (ei. the tribal voices). It fitted very well with the original song too! What in Archipel influenced you to bring a Kaden touch?
yes,i done the remix in the same time like my new myal ep. When i received the samples of "aya aye ashawa", i quickly had very a good idea!!! At first i recorded my own voice with „aya aye ashawa“ and then i wanted to do it in a hypnotic-african way. Maybe the kaden touch is the groove in this song...
